Sunday 4th
July Moats and Monuments. An 8-mile field (i.e. including stiles!) and lane walk over rolling countryside to the north-east of Stafford. There are excellent views towards Cannock Chase and the Wrekin and we will see two moated farms, a hill-top folly and a monument to William Pitt the Younger. The walk is centred on the village of (wait for it!) Gayton but we will meet at Amerton Farm car-park (at the far end beyond the exit) for an 11.00 start. Closest postcode ST18 0LA. Tea and cake available at the end of the walk. Bring a packed lunch. Amerton Farm and Craft Centre is on the A518. There are plenty of brown signs to lead you there. If arriving via M6, use exit 14 and A513 to reach A518 at Staffordshire University, where you turn left onto A518. Zig-zag across A51 at Weston. Leader is John (07855 035385). Grid ref: SJ 993 277. Saturday 10th - Sunday 11th July Rhayding the Dams of Wales. Saturday. An arduous 10½ mile hike climbing over a mountain, dropping down to the reservoirs, walking through a sheltered forest, crossing a dam and enjoying some of the country's best views money can’t buy. Come join us for either the day or the weekend, camping at a very reasonable site for just £2.50 (it is basic with just a loo and water) the night before, and then setting out for what will be a very memorable adventure. Bring your camera, some strong legs, a vast imagination and extended sense of humour as we embark on one of the GOC’s finest weekend adventures. Due to the extended distance and so many views to take in this will be a 10.00 registration and 11.00 start. We will be starting from Neuadd farm where the campers will be camping (£2.50 a night), and cars will be allowed to park there for just £1. Postcode LD6 5HH, approach slowly as the left turn comes up quickly. Look out for someone (probably me) standing there with a yellow vest. Packed Lunch. Leader and organiser is Aaron (Ring on 07851 239787 for further details). Grid ref: SN 959 672. Map Sunday 18th July Derbyshire Peaks. Details to be confirmed. Leader is Bob. Friday 30th July - Sunday 1st August Are we going to Scarborough Fair? Weekend away in North Yorkshire. More details to follow. Leader is Rory. |
